Drawing and Painting the Cornish Coast

3 Day course *Only 2 places left 27th – 29th June 10am-4pm

  • 250 British pounds

Service Description

I’m really looking forward to helping you explore a wide variety of different painting approaches on this exciting three-day workshop! During our sessions, we will make the most of the North Cornish Coast for inspiration, making notes and sketches in your art journals and sketchbooks whilst drawing and painting en plein air. You'll be immersed in nature, inspired by the beauty of your surroundings, the ideal location to explore and experiment with ink, charcoal, pastel and paint. The converted barn at Newmills provides a light, airy studio space perfect for fine-tuning your sketches and creating your artwork! We will look at other artists who take their inspiration from the sea and use your sketchbooks and journals as a guide to developing your own work. On our first day together, after you’ve had a relaxed breakfast at your chosen accommodation, we’ll meet at Newmills around 10am for intros and coffee, then travel a short distance to our chosen location, which won’t be more than ten minutes away. At midday we will have a picnic lunch, then we can either go back to the studio at Newmills or continue drawing and painting on the beach. Our painting day will end around 4pm. The next day will be similar. Our third and last day will largely be spent in the studio at Newmills. In the evening I would like to take you out for a 2-course dinner to celebrate your time here with us at Newmills. Most materials will be supplied free of charge; watercolour paper, drawing and pastel paper, brushes, ink, coloured pencils, charcoal, watercolours, palettes, water pots and kitchen roll. You will need to bring: Sketchbooks. Size is up to you but if only bringing one I would recommend an A4, pencils, rubbers, favourite brushes, water spray, water bottle (for drinking), hand sanitiser/wipes, apron or old shirt, camera, sunscreen. Pastels, acrylics or oils if wished, boards and canvas. *Please bring old clothes to paint in and some waterproofs and warm clothes in case of bad weather. Sturdy shoes such as trainers for some walking on coast paths and beach. Bring a hat as it does sometimes get really sunny and something to sit on, lightweight seat if you have one else a rolled up fleece or picnic blanket would be ideal. Although accommodation is not included, there are plenty of places to stay in and around Poundstock. Please contact me if you would like help with this. Please be advised that places get booked up very quickly, so please book early!
